I have taken this resources from notion doc (forgot the original link). I will try to keep this post updated:

Common Paths for breaking into PM Space:

Product Analyst/ Product Associate — → Associate Product Manager → Product Manager → Sr. Product Manager

Alternative ->

Effective business analyst/ engineer -> Associate Product Manager –> Product Manager → Sr. Product Manager

Others:

Be good at what you do, have high agency (read Shreyas Doshi’s definition of this), and keep hustling to learn & reaching out to folks proactively for opportunities. (Alex Banayan’s book — The Third Door talks about this)

  • Easier to try and switch in your own org (You won’t get if you don’t ask)
  • Build body of work (portfolio, case studies, your own products etc.) if trying to switch to other orgs. Display/Showcase your intent
